Longford based Brave Giant celebrated their first No 1 chart position in October, just two days before the band’s first Irish tour commenced. The new single, ‘Way To Love’ was released on Thursday 19th October and reached the much coveted No 1 position in the iTunes singles chart day of release. The band was in international company with Pink and Ed Sheeran taking number 2 and 3 spots respectively, when the Drumlish lads hit the top spot, a position they held for 24 hours!
The debut tour regional tour kicked off in style with a sell-out show at The Landmark Hotel in Leitrim. This was followed by a sell out at The Kasbah Social Club @ Dolans in Limerick, and the final show of the regional tour at Monroe’s Live, Galway on November 24th, sold out two weeks ahead of show day.
The band also played to great audiences at the beautiful Central Arts Theatre, Waterford and DeBarras, Clonakilty as part of the tour. Brave Giant concluded their official shows of 2017 with another full house at Dublin’s Academy venue last weekend, Saturday December 9th. This was a dream come through.
The response to Brave Giant’s regional tour and their biggest headline show to date this winter is acknowledge of 18 months of dedicated work, and reward to just how good this band is live. During 2017 Brave Giant was also invited by Picture This to guest on the final night of the band’s five-night Olympia run this summer, they also played the Heineken Stage at Longitude and MindField at Electric Picnic in September. This summer, was punctuated with a trip to the USA in August to play by invitation at the Milwaukee Irish Festival, and also hit Rockwood Music Hall New York for a headline show before returning home.
It’s been a remarkable 18 months for independent band, Brave Giant. Their last single, The Time I Met the Devil (featuring Irish actor and comedian, Joe Rooney) has enjoyed over 90,000 views since it went live in March, adding to the band’s impressive overall tally of 500,000+ online video views. The video received three nominations at this year’s (KInsale) Shark Awards (https://www.kinsalesharks.com/sharks-shorts-finalists/). The video which was directed by Fergal Costello and produced by Claire Gormley was nominated in #BestMusicVideo #BestDirection #BestLowBudgetMusicVideo categories.
The band also joined Gavin James and Roisin O as musical ambassadors for Bord na Móna’s inaugural #HearthSessions campaign and earlier this year were invited to perform on RTE’s flagship The Late Late Show.
Formed in 2011, Mark Prunty (guitar/vox), Podge Gill (guitar/vox), Ross McNerney (banjo/mandolin), Emmett Collum (drums) are the four young Longford men of Brave Giant. Their love of Irish music is evident in their sound, a skilfully achieved blend of rock, folk and alternative influences.
