Sixpenny Plug are a Donegal based outfit formed in early 2018 by local musician Cian O’ Donnell and Netherlands ex-pat Huib Van Der Aar. The duo first made acquaintance in Bundoran and found common ground in their mutual appreciation for surfing, guitars and Guinness. 4am jams quickly led to gigs around town and they made a name for themselves on the local scene, playing every night to happy beach goers. They honed their sound over countless bar gigs began to write their own material. They got some songs and a band together and entered the Sea Sessions Live and Unsigned contest. They came a close second to Italian power duo Order of The Mess but event organisers were so impressed that the band were given a slot anyway.
Inspired by the lush vocal arrangements of bands like Fleet Foxes as well as the off-beat funk-rock riffs of Queens of the Stoneage the band create a sound that’s easy on the ears but draws feet to the dance floor. The band are currently writing their debut EP set for release later in 2018.
