Mark McCabe’s name has become synonymous with the early naughties Irish dance culture. Even sixteen years after “Maniac 2000 shot to #1, it still taps into a powerful place in Irish nostalgia having secured itself cult status.
Back in 1998 an already musically devoted Mark McCabe started his career in the humble surrounds of pirate radio station Pulse Fm as a radio presenter. Even with Dublin riding the crest of dance Mania, no one could have predicted that an improvised live recording at a teen club night would shoot a then 20 year old Mark, to such heights. What was initially an underground track captured the imagination of a nation! The success of ‘’Maniac 2000’’ garnered accolades including two Meteor Music awards and the title of second biggest selling record in Ireland.
Despite gaining a reputation as “the Maniac 2000 guy”, Mark has never shied away from the Irish music industry, he has released numerous tracks under various names and signed to both Universal Music and home of Danny Tenaglia, Twisted NY. Mark was creator and editor of RTE’s digital stations 2xm and Pulse and later became head of music at RTÉ 2fm.
Last year, as a fifteenth anniversary surprise, the single topped the charts again. Shortly after, McCabe was invited to perform at Electric Picnic to thousands of excited festival goers. Since then, McCabe has been in high demand across the country, playing to over 20,000 fans collectively in clubs and college events. In early March, he played Andorra for the Coppers Face Jacks Ski Trip and has only recently returned from performing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sydney for St Patrick’s Day.
This Summer will undoubtedly be banging for the Chart topping club DJ, with a number of remixes set for release and a run of dates confirmed at home and across Europe. The Maniac’s back !
